Typically, a cosplay outfit will earn you, at best, adoration from your fellow fans and maybe even from one of your character’s creators/artists/actors.
One Irish cosplayer’s outfit earned him something much different: a Guinness World Record title.
According to a recent Gizmodo article, Julian Checkley created a Batman cosplay costume that would actually impress the Dark Knight himself. It certainly impressed the folks at Guinness World Records, which awarded him the coveted “most functional gadgets on a cosplay suit.”
In Checkley’s YouTube video, he shows how the costume houses no less than 23 different gadgets…all of which work! These gadgets range from a two-way radio to an ultrasonic anti-dog device to even a fireball shooter. Needless to say, many of these gadgets would have him stopped by convention security at any given anime or comic book convention, but that is the price you pay for Guinness prestige.
Here’s the full list of gadgets that earned him the Guinness World Record:
Gauntlet video screens
Bat tracking beacon
Pneumatic tranquilizer gun
Ultrasonic anti-dog device
Ball bearing grenades
Strobe stun gun
Concealed laryngeal microphone
Joker, Poison Ivy, and the rest of you super villains out there: it’s best to stay in Gotham City. Don’t dare try to wreak havoc in Belfast.
