I come from a long line of people pleasers. One family member immediately comes to mind (no names) but let’s say he was the person living in my house growing up without the vagina.
I was always worried about people liking me, thinking I was a great guy, saying nothing but nice things about me and collecting Mr. Nice Fella sashes every year.
It took a while to come to the realization that NOT EVERYONE IN THE WORLD WILL LIKE ME. It’s still a tough pill to swallow. I’M SO DAMN LIKEABLE! Ask the person with the vagina living in my house while growing up how damn likeable I am! Anyway, people don’t like me for whatever reason, and I’m fine with that fact.
Here are some tipson how to stop worrying about what everyone thinks of you. The first point is my absolute favorite and one of the first realizations I came to grips with in my quest to stop giving a crap about the opinion of others.
Remind yourself that most people are NOT thinking about you anyway.
Ethel Barrett once said, “We would worry far less about what others think of us if we realized how seldom they do.” Nothing could be closer to the truth.
Forget what everyone else thinks of you today; chances are, they aren’t thinking about you anyway. If you feel like they always are, understand that this perception of them watching you and critiquing your every move is a complete figment of your imagination. It’s your own inner fears and insecurities that are creating this illusion.
So true. In fact, right now, absolutely no one is thinking about you. Unless you’re a parent, and even so, your kids could probably give two shits right now. You’re not constantly on the minds of others.
Get over it.
